World Press Photo is an independent, non-profit organization based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Founded in 1955 the organization is known for holding the world's largest and most prestigious annual press photography contest. (Wikipedia)
Apart from the contest World Press Photo organizes around 100 local exhibitions in the whole world. I took the opportunity to visit one in May, when I was in Hamburg and it was really worth it. Even though the exhibition in Hamburg is over, there will be other exhibitions in Europe, even one in Munich from the 14th October to the 24th. Just check out the event page on the official website.
Besides the recommendable exhibitions and the interesting photos, there had been a discussion this year about how much a photographer is allowed to change a photo, so that it still counts as authentic and not manipulated. Especially the winning picture this year was accused to be fake, but the World Press Photo supported the photographer and rejected the accusation.
